Electronic beach signage advice and shared procurement sought

Following the introduction of the Environment Agency’s short-term pollution prediction process and the involvement of participating Beach Controllers by notifying the public when poor water quality is predicted, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council are considering installation of electronic signage at some resort beaches.

Due to the geographical distance between beaches, it is hoped that remotely controlling electronic displays will alleviate cost, time and effort involved in displaying the warning posters on the occasion of a poor prediction.

The screens being considered are 19″ vandal proof monitor displays that will not only be used to display STP warnings but also weather forecasts, tide timetables and potentially advertising.

Any advice, recommendations or suggestions from others who already actively using this technology would be very much appreciated especially with regards to the networking of displays and the technical requirements of the units themselves.

Additionally, if anyone is in the process of procuring a similar type of sign it may be possible to reduce costs through joint working and development of the relevant software, please post your comments below or email Ian Rayner or call on 01482 395131 to discuss.
